
On September 23, the solemn ceremony of opening the park of friendship between the cities of Shushi and Los Angeles took place in Shushi. On this occasion, a statue of an angel, which is the symbol of the two cities, was installed in the park.
The ceremony of opening was attended by members of the California State Assembly and the Los Angeles City Council, representatives of the regional administration of Shushi, the people of the town and numerous guests.
During the ceremony, head of the regional administration of Shushi Vladimir Kasyan, Mayor of the town of Shushi Artsvik Sarkisian, and member of the Los Angeles City Council Paul Krekorian delivered speeches.
The speakers emphasized the importance of the further expanding and strengthening of the cooperation, which had been established by the May 9, 2012 declaration on establishing friendship relations between the cities of Los Angeles and Shushi adopted by the Los Angeles City Council.
In his speech, the head of the regional administration of Shushi noted that the opening of the park of friendship between Shushi and Los Angeles symbolized the gratitude for the assistance rendered by the citizens and authorities of Los Angeles.
The ceremonial opening was followed by a meeting at the Mayor’s Office of Shushi, at which the statement of the municipal council of Shushi was handed to member of the Los Angeles City Council Paul Krekorian. By this statement, the authorities of Shushi welcome the resolution of the Los Angeles City Council and express their readiness to develop friendly relations between the two cities. The sides also discussed the possibilities of putting the cooperation on a more practical track.
